This month—Feb. 26, to be exact—marks the 10-year anniversary of the death of Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old Black teen who was shot and killed while walking through a Florida neighborhood. When his killer was acquitted, Alicia Garza, an Oakland-based activist, wrote a heartfelt post on Facebook; Patrisse Cullors, an activist in Los Angeles, responded, adding the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter.
