telling the story

For my article this month I want to delve into one of those aspects of scrapbooking that some of us seem to avoid – journalling. As the quote above says, without the words, the pictures are meaningless, and I can vouch for that firsthand! My Nan left one extremely old, leather-bound family photo album to my mum many years ago and she has promised that one day it will be passed on to me. Unfortunately, one of the sad things with this treasured family heirloom is that we have hundreds of photos of our ancestors, but we don’t know who they are as nothing has been recorded in the album or on the photos themselves, which is really, really sad and very disheartening. This is one of the reasons why journalling…

art journalling

Creating an art journal or personal art diary helps you develop your knowledge, finetune your skills and conceptualise ideas within a portable journal. It’s a journal you can take anywhere to jot, doodle, paint and create anything your creative spirit desires in. Each art journal is completely unique to the owner – it would be impossible to find two the same – and serves as a wonderful reminder of creative flow through the years. Art journals are perpetually a work in progress. Why do we art journal? We create art journals to allow our ideas to flow, to experiment with the amazing amount of product we possess, to find new ways of creating with direct intent, or because we want to create with total abandon and freedom. Art journals let us express…

journalling with silhouette

I have never liked my handwriting and this is evident in my pages. I usually hide my journalling to cover the ‘scrawl’ as I call it, but recently I discovered the fabulous Silhouette pen holder, which has added another dimension to using my Silhouette machine! The pen holder can be used in any Silhouette electronic cutting tool and holds most ballpoint pens. It allows you to replace the machine’s blade with a pen to sketch instead of cut! My superstar BY CHANTALLE MCDANIEL, QLD Materials: Paper – Bella!, Studio Calico, Heidi Swapp; Stamp – Heidi Swapp; Embellishments – Heidi Swapp acrylic shapes, rub-ons and Color Shine, Silhouette Cameo cut files and pen tool, Simple Stories pockets and frames, Studio Calico wood veneer, Greatest View flair, pen.
