majestic peacock

It’s hard to see how anyone can fail to be impressed by a peacock in full display – it’s the most magnificent of all birds. Resplendently painted in iridescent gold, turquoise and emerald, this makes a stunning cross stitch project, and to make it even more striking, Lesley has designed it on black aida. The shimmering, jewel-like colours jump off the black fabric to give a spectacular finish – it’s a real feast for the eyes. You’ll have such fun stitching with all the beautiful threads and beads and you’ll enjoy working with the opulent accessories too. It’s a great project for a stitcher who likes a challenge using beautiful beads and metallic threads. paisley peacock

Sometimes a design catches your eye and you just know you have to stitch it – and we think this is one of those projects. With every glimpse there’s more to enjoy, whether it’s the jewel-like shades of turquoise, topaz and tourmaline, the delicate leaf tendrils and stems, or the ornate beading throughout. All the elements come together to create a challenging and beautiful piece. Shannon has used pretty paisley and floral motifs to create the bird’s plumage, resulting in a delightfully colourful and stylised composition. We’ve stitched this design on Cashel evenweave so there is also an extra degree of detail in every stitch of this gem of a project. Stitching Factbox Stitching time: Approx 60 hours Type of stitches: Cross stitch, fractionals, backstitch, French knots, seed beads Level: Advanced You will need Threads: Stranded…

regal kingfisher

This spectacular design combines a stitcher’s passion for pattern with a love of naturalistic subjects. Birds translate extremely well into cross stitch, especially if they’re colourful – the blue and orange plumage on this kingfisher look superb. Susan has used pale shades of blue in the background to tie in with the beautiful blue of the feathers, and incorporated gold thread in the border, to imitate the gilding you get on vintage decorated plates. This design is so striking that it’s bound to cause a stir when it goes up on display, and once you’ve stitched it, you’ll want to hang it in pride of place. Stitching Factbox Stitching time: Approx 50 hours Type of stitches: Cross stitch, fractionals, backstitch Level: Intermediate You will need Threads: Stranded cotton and metallic threads, as listed in the key Needle:…

spring time

The popular blue tit is loved for its distinctive blue and yellow markings, recreated here in stranded cottons. Perched on a branch of pink blossom with a circle of blue sky as a backdrop, the blue tit makes a fine portrait. He’s worked on 28-count antique white evenweave in 31 shades of stranded cotton. The picture uses whole, fractional and half stitches in two strands of thread, and backstitch and French knots in one strand to bring out the detail. A great project for intermediate and experienced stitchers. Stitching Factbox Stitching time: Approx 30 hours Type of stitches: Cross stitch, fractionals, half cross stitch, backstitch Level: Intermediate You will need Threads: Stranded cotton, as listed in the key Needle: Size 26 tapestry needle Fabric: 28-count antique white evenweave measuring 35x40cm (13¾x15¾in) Extras: Kona Cotton Solids – Dusty Blue (K362)…
