vwbus t4&5+

Well, we’ve reached the grand old age of 100. I can’t say any of us involved in that first trial issue were really thinking that far ahead. Yet here we are nearly nine years on with 100 issues in the archive. We have saved some of the best buses around for this auspicious issue. In order of appearance, there’s a rare studio shoot for comedian Jess Thom’s tour T4, Grant Gwyn reveals his stunning orange Caddy, we don’t feature that many Caddys but this one is a beauty and worthy of a place in this special issue. Next is Ernie, well Toby Stowe’s T5 single cab pick-up called Ernie, an unusual build with a spectacular end product. Then there’s what might be the most famous bus we’ve ever featured, James…

Electric Conversion With VW charging (pun intended) headlong into an electric future, electric vehicle specialists EV Europe are already producing full electric conversion kits. They have already converted a number of VW T5s and T6s. They have developed a standardised conversion package where the fuel engine is replaced by a 250 Nm strong AC e-engine. The entire CAN communication is also controlled from the e-car-box, which makes the entire dashboard fully functional. The rev counter now gives the e-engine speed and the temperature gauge the temperature of the engine/controller. For the battery system a robust LiFePo4 battery system has been chosen, but for a larger range a Lithium-ion battery system can be chosen. One of the pictured T5s is used by the municipality of Leidschendam, it regularly tows a trailer of…

Camping Equipment Boom Olpro, one of the UK’s leading retailer in tents and camping equipment, has seen a 39% increase in orders as holiday-goers got ready for campsites to open on 4th July. The camping industry as a whole has seen a huge demand for tents in recent weeks with people trading hopes of a foreign holiday for the more reliable option of a camping ‘staycation’. Camping has also become the popular holiday choice for enjoying the fresh air while maintaining safety and keeping a social distance. Campsites are ensuring that there is a good amount of physical space between pitches and are already improving distancing and cleaning measures, ensuring all campers can remain safe. Daniel Walton, Founder of OLPRO, told us, “We’re proud to be playing a hugely important role in…

vanshades update

Window Pods 2.0 VanShades have come a long way since they started in 2015. In the words of Managing Director, Pete Staniforth, “we started with nothing more than an idea and lots of debt”. Fast forward to 2020 and they should hit the magical £1,000,000 mark. That’s an awful lot of Window Pods. 70% of production is now sold directly to the trade, which is a great testament to the quality of their products. For 2020 Pete told us, “we’ve listened to our customers’ views over the years and tweaked the product so much that we decided to have a re-launch”. So, Window Pods 2.0 have the following features and benefits, a totally re-designed range, increased aperture size, a better location within the window recess, making them easier to install. They…

Torsus Time Here’s something that caught our eye recently, not strictly a VW although MAN are an important part of VAG so this comes under the + part of our title. Besides, it’s really cool and would make an even cooler camper! The tough Torsus Praetorian has been awarded a prestigious Red Dot Award in the Product Design 2020 category, for its outstanding design quality. Torsus, in partnership with Werkemotion—an independent transportation and industrial design studio—designed the Torsus Praetorian, the world’s first heavy duty 4x4 off-road bus. Designed to transport personnel and equipment safely across the world’s harshest environments, the bus is based on an upgraded heavy-duty MAN chassis and is powered by MAN engines and drivetrain. From the Michelin off-road tyres, to the Line-X™ military grade coating on body parts,…
