“When EVERYTHING in the world goes awry, we crave the comfort, familiarity and WARMTH of home.” When I look at this month’s cover I instantly feel happy and wish I was walking through the door of that gorgeous weatherboard that opens up to so much more. So far, 2020 has dealt its fair share of bad cards in terms of catastrophic weather events and the awful knock-on effects of loss of life, livelihoods and homes. And now we are in a global pre-pandemic panic! Groceries, painkillers, toiletries and cleaning products are flying off the shelves and the one thing I am pleased to report is that magazines are too. I have a mental picture of our readers finding sanctuary in their well-stocked homes, engrossed in the pages of H&G until the…

Thank you for acknowledging the devastation of the bushfires in the March issue. My family lost our beautiful holiday home at Rosedale on the NSW South Coast on New Year’s Eve. Fortunately, the house is insured and there are others who have lost so much more. Our little community, while devastated, is determined to rebuild, restore and renew. I write because so many items in the issue reminded me of the home we lost – the coastal kitchen (Kitchen Special), Smeg toaster (Shopping), and an Ikea casserole pot (9 By Design Cookware). In fact, the only item left intact and recognisable among the ruins of our home was the same Ikea pot! I will be looking to future issues of H&G for inspiration as my family draws up plans for…

“WE WANTED THE KITCHEN TO BE A MONOCHROME SPACE, WITH THE MARBLE ISLAND AS THE STAR.” KELLIE HUSH, OWNER Fashion maven Kellie Hush is famous for her precision-cut hair and clean-lined outfits. Whether she’s dressed for business or weekends, she radiates effortless chic. Not surprisingly, a similar clean aesthetic and style confidence defines the renovated home she shares with her husband David Bugg and their daughters Amelia, 14, and Lola, 11. Kellie, former editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar Australia, and David, a podiatrist, bought their semi-detached home in Sydney’s eastern suburbs in 2006. “At the time, we were living in a two-bedroom apartment down the road. We had a baby and we’d walk around the area, dreaming about where our next home would be,” Kellie says. When they came across this house, it…

“I LOVE AUSTRALIAN FASHION. THE TALENT IS PHENOMENAL.” FIRST ADULT HOME? A two-bedroom apartment in Coogee. It was light, a short walk to the beach and had ocean glimpses from the balcony. BUCKET-LIST DESTINATION? I’d like to take my daughters to their dream destinations: Paris (2) for Lola and Japan (8) for Amelia. FAVOURITE MEAL? At home, always. Homemade poké bowls (7) are our new Sunday tradition. David is an awesome cook and makes the best tuna pasta. DREAM CAR? This is easy! A black Porsche 911 (5). I’D CROSS THE WORLD TO SEE A Christian Dior haute couture show (3) in Paris. I’ve been to hundreds of fashion shows but never to Dior couture. I LOVE A VASEFUL OF My mum’s hydrangeas (1). She always brings us a bunch from her home in Canberra, transported…
