I love this time of year because of that back to school feeling – new horizons, the chances to try different experiences and explore more by ship. One of my favourite destinations for cruising has to be the Baltic – from Stockholm to St Petersburg, this spectacular region is as intriguing as it is beautiful. The dusky purple hues and delicate fragrance of lavender which transform the countryside of Provence every summer have become synonymous with the region. Among the most famous lavender fields are those that spread across the Plateau de Valensole alongside an abundance of golden yellow sunflowers from late June to early August each year.
