update macos 10.15: catalina

1 First of all, open the App Store and find the Mojave operating system. Do a search if it’s not immediately visible on the front page. Click on macOS Mojave to get to the download page. 2 When you get to the Catalina download page, you can read all about the new OS. When you’re ready, click on Download. It may take some time if you have a slow Internet connection. 3 When the installer is fully downloaded, it automatically launches with this screen. Click Continue if you’re ready to install and if not, quit it and install from the Applications folder later. 4 Next step is terms and conditions. You have to click on Agree to continue. If you don’t have time to read them, there’s a copy available in About This…

13 updating to ios 13 and updating apps

Downloading and updating iOS 1 To check for a new version of iOS, first of all open the Settings app from the Home screen. It’s the silver-coloured icon showing a series of cogs. From the next screen, scroll up until you see the General link and then tap it. 2 In General, tap Software Update. Your iPhone checks with Apple to see if there is a newer version than the one you’re running. If there isn’t, you’re told you’re up to date, but if there is, you can install it now. 3 If an update’s available, tap the Download and Install link. You may need to plug your iPhone into a mains power supply if the battery’s low. After entering your passcode, the update downloads to your iPhone. 4 When it’s finished tap Install…

James Gale Managing Editor I want Netflix, Shudder and Disney+ incorporated into the Apple TV app. It still feels more like a shop front for iTunes than an integrated entertainment hub. Martin Smith Group Senior Designer More a feature for watchOS but a 'Rest Day' option for the Activity app would be useful to those who train a lot and need to take recovery days. Bob Canning Staff Writer My German relatives are getting sick of waiting for the News app to reach Germany. Come on, Apple. How long does it take? Alison Drew Sub Editor You can now use the scrollbar to move the screen up and down faster, but I keep doing it accidentally when swiping. I wish you could turn it off. Ian Osborne Editor I really wish you could access the iOS/iPadOS equaliser directly from…

editor’s letter//

The new operating systems are out, and don’t they look great? We’ve all got our favourite features. Mine would be Sidecar, if I had a notebook that could run it. My 2015 MacBook Pro is too long in the tooth for this particular feature, though it’s running Catalina beautifully, and is as snappy and speedy as the day I bought it. Macs really do outlive their Windows rivals by some considerable distance. In our house, we still have an original, first-generation MacBook Air that’s in regular use and working fine. It’s stuck on OS X 10.7: Lion and its hard drive has long since been replaced with an SSD, but it’s still running well at eleven years old. An Apple gadget we don’t tend to hang onto as long as…
