your feedback

@krystlef @calyx_health @ghazalehgol Your article in issue 70 on owning your superpowers absolutely resonated with me. As a mum working full time I often dwell on my weaknesses. I am only just discovering that being kind to my mind, body and soul and honouring both my strengths and weaknesses is such an empowering superpower in itself. Fitting in mediation, yoga and moving my body helps me tune into my emotions and truly get to the root of things as they arise. I want to say thank you Good magazine for inspiring readers to embrace their true selves and not be deterred by what others may think. Life is too short not to be your authentic self. C Murphy, Hamilton Hi Good mag, I just read your article ‘Being Child Free and Why That’s OK’…

snack on exercise

THE EASIEST WAY TO BOOST YOUR BRAIN, BODY AND MOOD How would it feel to wake up every morning with fantastic energy and vitality? Picture being the most positive, vibrant version of yourself every day. We all know that exercise is essential for great health but with never-ending to-do lists it can easily end up in the ‘too hard’ basket. While working in wellbeing for the last 20 years, people have repeatedly told me the biggest reason they don’t exercise is a lack of time. But what if you could overcome the time barrier? If you’re busy and would love more energy and confidence without having to add anything extra to your to-do list, why not ‘snack on exercise’, a concept I shared in my 2018 TEDx Talk. Even when you’re busy, you still…

self-awareness

We all have many unconscious scripts choreographing our dance through life. They trip us up, putting us out of rhythm, demanding more from us. Often, we also place these invisible demands on others, expecting them to act or speak in a certain way. Having these often unspoken expectations between one another can be detrimental to relationships. Whether we perceive something as a good or bad experience, it moulds our belief system from a very early age. Speaking from experience as an ex-perfectionist, I was raised in an environment where I was praised heavily for my loyalty to older people and authority figures and I was punished for doing nothing–expectations passed down from generations of experience of how to parent. As a result, for most of my adult life I was frustrated…

Katie McHardy is on a journey to educate herself and others about the Slow Flower Movement–encouraging people to support the local economy by buying seasonal and locally grown flowers. Having recently returned to Hawke’s Bay she is tying her environmental and floristry passions together by establishing a sustainable cut flower garden on her family’s coastal farm in Aramoana. McHardy embarked on her journey in floristry in 2017 and family connections led her to The Land Gardeners based at Wardington Manor, Oxfordshire. Run by McHardy’s second cousin, Bridget Elworthy and her business partner Henrietta Courtauld, The Land Gardeners have established a name for themselves globally, working with gardeners and farmers to improve the health of their land by focusing on soil health. Elworthy suggested McHardy gain some work experience with them, presenting an exciting opportunity…

bring a plate

Maple & Dill Slow Smoked Salmon This is my favourite dish for summer. It will impress your guests no end and you will make it time and time again just to have in the fridge because it is so delicious and versatile. It is perfect as a tapas dish as people can pick at it as they enjoy a few drinks, and the salmon is also great on crackers, sweet potato rounds, zucchini bites or you can serve it as a meal with salad. I buy a whole salmon from the fishmonger and ask them to clean it for me so that all the hard work is done and then I smoke one whole side. Serves: 6. Preparation: 15 minutes.
