Apple isn’t a company that is used to being told what to do, which is why it must have been a shock when the EU issued a directive recently that all smartphones must switch to using a USB-C charging port by 2024. Apple really doesn't have any choice but to comply, which means you can expect it to ditch the Lightning connector in next year's iPhone.
