Mollie Makes Colouring

Colouring has really grown up in recent years and this stunning collection of designs by leading artists and illustrators will keep you busy for many evenings to come. We've loved curating this collection and there is truly something for everyone – florals, plants, woodlands, animals, birds, travel, cakes, donuts, geometrics and tessalations – take your pick! We've also included six fantastic designs with blank areas for you to fill with your own doodles before colouring – find them in the Hackable section at the back. 01 Back and forth The simplest way to colour: draw short lines next to each other, back and forth without lifting your pencil. Keep the strokes in the same direction for each section, but experiment with different directions – diagonal is most effective, but try verticals. 02 Broad shading Rather than holding your pencil upright, lie it flat and use the side of the lead, rather than the point, to create larger areas of light colour. This is a great technique for subtly layering different colours over each other or for filling large areas quickly. 03 Cross hatching Draw a set of separate parallel lines in one direction, then lift the pencil and draw another set of lines at right angles over the first set.
