THIS is our first glimpse of the all-new Toyota Yaris, which has been testing at the Nürburgring ahead of an official reveal at the Tokyo Motor Show at the end of the year. Don’t be fooled by the familiar styling, because this prototype is running on a new set of chassis components that will bring more hybrid tech and added practicality to the Ford Fiesta rival. ELSEWHERE at Kia, the firm’s all-new full-size SUV, the Telluride, will heavily influence the look of the next-generation Sorento, Auto Express can reveal. Despite the success of the Telluride in the US, Kia’s flagship SUV will not go on sale in Europe – due to the fact it is only available with a 3.8-litre GDI V6 petrol engine. However, an insider at the firm did reveal that its chunky design will inspire the look of the next Sorento, which is scheduled to go on sale on 2021. The Volante does away with the conventional fixed roof for an eight-layer folding fabric hood. This opens in 14 seconds and closes in 16 seconds, and can be operated either from the inside, or by the key within two metres of the car. Those stories turned out to be untrue and unfounded. But rather than allow misinformation about camera activation ‘thresholds’ to circulate unchecked, Auto Express asked the UK’s 45 police forces via Freedom of Information requests how strictly their 3,224 speed cameras enforce limits. Like the standard model, the camper has also been given a refresh. It gets the same updated trim, but much of its styling has been left unchanged. As before, there are two versions: the Marco Polo and the Marco Polo Horizon. As on the VW California, one comes with a mini kitchen, and the other does not. The Horizon model (without the hob, fridge and sink) is roughly comparable with VW’s Cali Beach, while the more expensive Marco Polo is on par with the better-equipped Ocean. Honda Jazz THE Honda Jazz is a cleverly designed supermini that makes the most of its interior space. There’s a host of useful cubbyholes inside, the rear bench can fold up like cinema seats and the boot offers a handy 354-litre capacity. Elsewhere, the car impresses with its slick manual gearbox, generous standard kit and decent build quality. Hyundai i20 CLOSELY related to the Kia Rio, the i20 offers a similar blend of comfort, practicality and equipment – all at a reasonable price. Buyers wanting an off-roader packed with personality and performance should take note – so what’s the £143,370 G 63 like? Design & engineering WHILE the styling might not look all that different to its predecessor’s, this new G-Class sports some big changes underneath. Its body is still separate from the backbone chassis below, which uses independent suspension at the front controlled by three-mode air suspension. NOISE THE G 63 AMG’s trademark is its pair of dual-exit side exhaust pipes. They give it a huge amount of character both visually and aurally. Its V8 doesn’t have the same hardcore edge as it does in AMG’s sports saloons and supercars – it’s a more woofly tone reminiscent of an old school non-turbo engine. In isolation, the Bentayga sounds good, but it can’t match the Merc for character.
