A slew of horror car crashes have made headlines in recent months.
Last week, it was revealed that child actor Makayah McDermott, 10, was killed alongside his aunt Rozanne Cooper, 34, when a stolen car ploughed into them.
Then, days later, mum Hoden Aden, 44, escaped jail after fatally injuring two-year-old Fahima Hassan in an Asda car park, while talking on her hands-free mobile phone behind the wheel.
Shockingly, despite the rising number of deaths and serious injuries caused by road accidents (24,610 were recorded between March 2015 and March 2016), death by dangerous driving still only carries a minimum sentence of one year.
