For most women, tummies are a problem area – from stubborn fat to bloating. But there are a number of reasons we struggle, according to nutritionist Lily Soutter (Lilysoutternutrition.com).
“If your stomach always looks bloated, you may be eating the wrong foods,” she explains. “Certain foods trigger inflammation and can cause swelling and gas. The most common culprits include processed foods, yeast, gluten, dairy, fried dishes, coffee and alcohol.”
One of the biggest culprits, though, is sugar. “Sugary foods and refined white carbs encourage the body to retain water,” explains Lily. “Eating too many sugary foods also causes insulin to spike. Insulin is our fat-storing hormone, which causes fat to be stored around the middle.”
It’s also important to drink plenty of fluids, and steer clear of bloat-inducing carbonated drinks.…
