Mobile network provider EE has claimed to have eliminated 12,000 square kilometres of 4G ‘not spots’ in the last 12 months – equivalent to about 1.5 million football pitches.
The company has upgraded 4,000 existing sites, and added 105 new masts, providing mobile coverage to some parts of the UK for the first time. As a result, says EE, over 200 emergency calls were made that previously weren’t possible.
Remote areas of Scotland, such as the Isle of Skye, have benefited most. However, overall coverage in Scotland is still only 75 per cent, which is significantly below the UK average of 90 per cent.
