MZs are cool. Kühl, even. Yes, the marque that was once regarded as a bargain-basement Commie bike that you bought because you couldn’t afford anything else has come of age.
Perhaps it’s because the factory has closed; perhaps it’s because they’re (mostly) two-strokes; perhaps it’s because their utilitarian nature is back in fashion. Whatever it is, they’re no longer cheap.
Stop sniggering. MZs were, by a long, long way, the best Eastern Bloc (as we used to call it) bikes built, and in some key aspects, better than the Japanese competition. I sold a Honda CJ250, admittedly not Soichiro’s finest, for a TS250/1, and discovered it was a better bike in every way.
