2002-2004
Honda VFR800
When a firm doesn’t change a bike for over a decade, you have to assume they’re happy with it. The V4 engine is a pleasure when you’re taking it easy, but if you crank up the revs the VTEC system adds a kick. Servicing can be fiddly though.
Spec: 782cc 90¡ V4, 110bhp, 59lb.ft, 150mph, 249kg
Expect to pay: £2500-£3250
2002-2004
Triumph Sprint ST
A revelation back in the day: suddenly, buying British wasn’t a patriotic chore. Simply, the Sprint is a real rival to the VFR. The motor is the centrepiece, with enormous strength everywhere, in a beefy-yet-nimble sport-touring chassis.
Spec: 955cc inline triple, 118bhp, 78lb.ft, 150mph, 250kg
Expect to pay: £2650-£3300
1999-2004
Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird
It’s in the nature of biking that time turns…
