For me, putting this particular issue together has been equal parts exciting and nerve-racking. I’m now three months away from welcoming my second child into the world – a boy this time! – and although my days are spent consuming baby and pregnancy-related info, I’m realising just how much you forget about those early days with baby. Michelle Robinson Michelle Robinson swapped her news desk for a rocking chair and sandpit back in 2014. Today, she is a busy mum to son August (2) and baby Kingsley. She continues to write from home. Michelle was bemused to hear how several friends formed close bonds with their midwives and she felt compelled to share her own experience on page 58. “Midwives at times get a bad rap in the media. I wanted to add to the conversation by saying how competent and personable midwives have a crucial role in ushering women into motherhood, just as they usher precious new lives into the world.” Madeleine Tobert Madeleine Tobert’s journey to New Zealand was a long one. She started life in Scotland, travelled around the Pacific Islands, and stayed for longer than expected…

We were lucky to catch some glimpses of sun on a gloomy day – not that the babies were fussed – there were smiles all around throughout the morning.…
