thank you

I promise not to get too nostalgic in my last letter as Acting Editor, but I couldn’t sign off without saying a huge thank you to all the amazing people I have worked with over the past six issues. From the multi-talented LP&Q team to our brilliant pool of designers, fabulous freelancers, and of course, you lot – our lovely readers! It has been a huge privilege to look after this title for Alice while she has been on maternity leave and I’ve had so much fun in the process. So, as I say a fond farewell to you all and head over to our sister title, Today's Quilter, I hope you will join me in giving Alice the warmest welcome back, and in the meantime immerse yourself in the…

around we go!

Spring’s well and truly here, and we couldn’t think of a better way to enjoy the lighter evenings than with a dreamy getaway in a lovely log cabin. As it happens, we’re also pretty content sat at our sewing machines and whipping up some pretty Log Cabin blocks as a happy compromise – anyone with us? So, this month, we’re projecting our forest getaway fantasy into our cover gift to bring you the ultimate Log Cabin Trim Tool to make 3½in and 7in square blocks. If you’re a tad frazzled trying to work out exactly how to do so, fear not, because our handy guide will help you make the most of your new tool to add four Log Cabin blocks to your quilting repertoire. Play with Courthouse Steps, striped and chevron…

out there

Don't be square! Roses are red, violets are blue, triangles are irresistible for us and for you. Let’s face it, who can look at Lindsey of Pen + Paper Patterns’ new Mod Triangles quilt and not want to piece up their own version immediately?! Believe it or not, the pattern includes zero Half-rectangle Triangles, being entirely traditionally pieced, with only those pesky dog ears to trim at the end… yes, really! Mod Triangles is also half yard, fat quarter and stash friendly, making it a double win in our books. Grab your copy from penandpaperpatterns.etsy.com OH SO OMBRÉ Contrary to popular belief, we don’t buy the idea that there’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Instead, we think these Ombr é Confetti Metallic beauties by V&Co for Moda are…

drowning in wips

Before I jump into my pile of unfinished sewing projects, indulge me with one quick story. When I was 21 I wasn’t overly ambitious, but I did have one special skill – I said yes to most things, whether I understood what I was getting myself into or not. Because of this special skill, during the summer leading into my senior year of college, I stumbled into an internship at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. It's time, GQs (gentle quilters), to attack those WIPs with the single-mindedness and veracity that we attack our own quilting acronyms I was a graphic design student, working towards an art degree with mediocre grades from a school in the middle of America. It’s safe to say that nobody knew why or how I was allowed security…
