He was in his early 20s, and one of many young mates working for the seasoned vets who fished out of our yard. Jackie was working the cockpit for Capt. Sammy Collins when we first met, and was a familiar face on the south dock. Sammy was my adopted uncle and my dad’s best friend, so I was in tune with whatever Uncle Sam was doing on Georgia Mae, White Swan and Big Blue.
