the big bang theory

Hublot's top-tier Big Bang series has already received enviable special editions this year, notably the “All Black” and “Camo” collaborations with Japanese fashion legend Yohji Yamamoto. But when it comes to unbridled luxury (and extravagant prices to match), even those exclusive models pale in comparison to the newly announced “High Jewellery” collection. As the luxury Swiss watchmaker puts it, “Three new Hublot models marry the technical performance of the manufacture movements, the sophisticated beauty of diamonds and the expertise of master watchmakers.” Here’s what you need to know about each blingy bauble… BIG BANG UNICO HIGH JEWELLERY 334 BAGUETTE-CUT DIAMONDS, 12.5 CARATS Arranged in close rows and invisible settings on 18-karat white gold, 243 diamonds (8.6 carats) decorate the 42 mm case and the bezel. An additional 61 stones (1.3 carats) add extra…

tag, you're it

The hits, as you might say, keep on coming for TAG Heuer, as the famed luxury watchmaker just debuted a new special edition of the TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph to celebrate 160 years of precision timekeeping. The lauded watch company introduced new Carrera Sport Chronograph models earlier this year, but this forthcoming launch gives watch enthusiasts and TAG Heuer fans yet another reason to get excited. The TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph 160 Years Special Edition is available with a white or blue dial and draws inspiration from the company’s storied archives. In this instance, the new model, in handsome stainless steel construction, is based off the Heuer “Dato 45.” It puts its own spin on the brand’s many hallmarks, arriving to the anniversary celebration with a 44mm case diameter…

top gun time

“IT’S PRETTY VIOLENT WHEN YOU FLY AROUND IN A FIGHTER JET — YOU’RE MOVING, YOU’RE TURNING, YOU’RE LOOKING AND YOU’RE REACHING.” The latest pilot-tested timepiece from International Watch Company Schaffenhausen, or IWC, is inspired by the Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor (SFTI) model that was made exclusively for graduates of the “TOPGUN” Navy Fighter Weapons School. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Top Gun Edition “SFTI” boasts an ultra-durable black zirconium oxide ceramic 44mm case – IWC notes that the material is second only to a diamond with regard to hardness. The formidable timepiece was battle-tested by a Navy captain and ticking within is IWC’s 69380 calibre movement in a classic column wheel design that can keep stopwatch times up to 12 hours, as well as date and time. The case back and chronograph pushers…

metal mania

Casio have dropped an all-new G-SHOCK MTGB2000, beefing up its luxury MT-G series with an innovative new carbon fibre-reinforced case. Bulking up the Metal Core Guard Structure used in previous MT-G models, G-SHOCK — which seems to debut a new watch every week — has imbued its latest timepiece with a Dual Core Guard structure that incorporates a carbon fibre-reinforced resin case, designed to leverage both the lightness and superior strength of carbon fibre. The carbon monocoque case is surrounded by a metal frame, giving the watch a refined metallic look. The MTGB2000D-1A model features a black bezel and dial with a layered-composite band made with a higher proportion of fine resin, paired with metal parts and is about 15 percent lighter than previous models. The MTGB2000B-1A2 features a black dial…

ace lightning

One hundred mph. More. More. Flat out. Rockabilly hair slicked back. Lewis leathers. Emblems ablaze. Twitching for another Woodbine to smoke upon a successful return. Well on the way to joining the exclusive Ton Up Club. This is the origin of the café racer. So named for London’s Ace Café, and the speed freaks who raced to the nearby Hanger Lane roundabout and back to earn their place in the Ton Up Club after World War II. Legend has it that if your bike couldn’t do 100 mph, you had no chance of making the distance required in the time it took for a record to play on the jukebox. The fancy marques of the day were BSA, Triumph and Norton, and if you were really lucky, and wealthy, Vincent. In…

e-warrior

THAT LARGE CYLINDRICAL BATTERY PACK IS A STRUCTURAL PART OF THE CHASSIS THAT HELPS WITH UPGRADES AND MATERIALS RECOVERY. Any bozo with a design program can sit at a computer and create a motorcycle rendering. However, Newron Motors CEO Sebastien Mahut is no keyboard warrior, and intends to build 12 examples of his latest creation — the 2021 Newron EV-1. Mahut started the company in 2016, but his first design and build was in 2009, when he threw an electric motor in an Aprilia Futura chassis, resulting in an e-bike capable of 112 km/h on a range of less than 64 km. No longer able to shock the moto-world with electricity, he took a different route with the EV-1 - creating a body made entirely out of wood. The panels are done in…
