Welcome to my job. That’s what George Carlin used to say at the beginning of his show. This is a good job, and one I’ve been preparing for and thinking about for quite a while now. There have been 11 before me. My predecessor, Carl Swanson, is moving over to Trains magazine. Along with my promotion came another: Cody Grivno is now senior editor at Model Railroader. Newly tooled HO scale Canadian piggyback flatcars are in the works from Rapido Trains. Road names in the first release of flatcars are Canadian National (Vancouver Iron & Engineering) and Canadian Pacific (Marine Industries) in six road numbers per paint scheme. Assembled but undecorated models will also be available (as-built CN and CP versions). Features on the models include a heavy die-cast metal center sill, photoetched deck surface, Barber S-2 trucks with metal wheels, and Rapido semiscale metal knuckle couplers. Athearn recently announced that it’s adding a 13,000-gallon tank car to its N scale Genesis series. The model is scheduled for release in July 2023. The tank car will be decorated for Union Tank Car Co. (black and white paint schemes), GE Rail Services (white with black band and NATX reporting marks), Grupo Mexico (white), and Procor (black and white paint schemes). The tank car will be available in six road numbers per paint scheme (three single cars and one three-pack). Features on the N scale tank car include separate, factory-applied metal grab irons and handrails; body-mounted McHenry double-shelf couplers; etched stainless steel crossover platforms and top platforms; machined metal RP-25 contour metal wheels; and prototypespecific end sills, top platforms, and brake systems. HO scale General Motors Diesel Division F59PH diesel locomotives. These four-axle commuter engines are now available from Rapido Trains. The HO scale General Motors Diesel Division F59PH diesels are decorated for GO Transit (as-delivered scheme in eight road numbers, with angled side herald in one number), Metra, Metrolink (as-delivered, teal stripe, and ribbon schemes), Trinity Rail Express, AMT (Montreal), and ex-GO Transit lease (unnumbered), in three numbers per scheme unless noted. The models have a die-cast metal chassis, detailed cab interior, underbody details, etched-metal grills, and metal end handrails with plastic stanchions. Direct-current models sell for $225.
