“Speed and Style” is this month’s theme, and who better to jump on board than yacht enthusiast, supermodel, entrepreneur, speed junkie and classic car enthusiast David Gandy? In a special Boat Life, David gives us a masterclass in both these arenas, from smashing powerboating records with the Vector Martini team and driving the Mille Miglia with female supermodels to the provenance of the original tuxedo. The self-confessed adrenalin junkie reveals his supercar wish list and recommends the clothes, watches and luggage that every globetrotter should have in his master suite. But keeping on top of the latest tech and toys can be overwhelming, which is why we got Wired’s Jeremy White to curate the newest and best of each: a foldable drone, a shark-deterring diving suit and an electronic surfboard…

revolution rising

Venerable Dutch yard Jongert makes a return to the superyacht scene after four years with the sale of 47m Revolution. With hexagonal cut-out sections that light up at night to spectacular effect, Revolution continues the use of intricate shapes made possible by 3D printing that Dutch designer Vripack released in its 2015 Flow concept. Star features include a jet stream pool, 28m gym, diesel-electric propulsion system and a layout moulded around the client. “As the owner is an experienced captain, we placed his quarters on the bridge deck with a running machine at the steering wheel and his bath in the gull wing giving unobstructed views rear and front,” says Marnix Hoekstra, creative director of Vripack. lippy from the liffey

You need to be younger than I am but you also need balls of steel. The kids were giving me stick for not getting the hang of it I know this issue is all about tech, toys and tenders, with all sorts of cool new kit, but I’m a bit old fashioned when it comes to what I take out of the toy box. I love a simple Hobie Cat. The whole Jordan clan was in Mauritius for Christmas and I sailed my Hobie every single day. I did try kitesurfing, but I was just hopeless. First off, I think you need to be younger than I am for kitesurfing, but you also need balls of steel. It’s really not for the faint-hearted. When you get lifted up into the air, you…

island life

I imagine the other America’s Cup teams were keen to check us out on arrival in Bermuda – just as, for our team, it was a big moment in the campaign to start lining up against some of our opposition. The race course here has very flat water and is perfect for foiling. It’s also pretty small but we’re used to that, coming from the Solent. It’ll be no surprise that our first few months on the island have been incredibly busy. We moved our sailing operations to Bermuda in early December and since then we have juggled the practical aspects of the move – completing our new base and getting operational – with the need to get out on the water and keep developing our boats and our skills as…
