into the abyss we go

And life in the world of gin continues ever more. Since the last issue, scientists have produced the first image of a black hole. Judging by the comments I’ve heard recently from a number of (mostly whisky) people, these scientists have also peered inside the black hole and found we’ve hit ‘peak gin’. Yes, that’s right – imminent doom is here. People have long been speculating over when our enthusiasm for gin will end and we now seem to know what it will look like – a big black dot with a reddish glow around it (in seriousness, it’s oddly impressive). Your favourite gin brands are busy being sucked into it as they produce new expressions and presumably are all being crushed as we speak. All that is left afterwards are…

Hayman’s has launched their True English Hopped Gin. The limited-edition bottling is the first in Hayman’s ‘Bartender Release’ series and was co-created by Bartender, Jordan Sweeney of The Wigmore Tavern at the Langham Hotel. Jordan was the winner of the Hayman’s True Taste Competition in 2018. The prize included a five-day distilling apprenticeship working under master distiller, Christopher Hayman and distiller, Sam Pembridge to make Jordan’s own special edition Hayman’s Gin. Describing the experience of working with the Hayman family to create the gin, Jordan said: “The knowledge you gain during the apprenticeship is the prize. I’ve had the chance to get hands-on experience in a working distillery with true professionals. It is incredible that one of the most respected gin companies will be selling my very own gin! I cannot wait…

old curiosity explores with lemon verbena

Edinburgh gin brand, Old Curiosity, has launched a new, Lemon Verbena gin. The bottling is the distillery’s first clear gin and newest edition to its Secret Garden Range. Distilled using lemon verbena from the distillery’s Secret Herb Garden, the gin also comprises base botanicals of juniper, coriander, angelica and winter savoury. It is best served with a slice of lemon peel and a light tonic. The Old Curiosity Distillery is the most recent project from Hamish Martin, a Scottish herbologist and owner of the Secret Herb Garden – a herb nursery in Edinburgh. Hamish comments: “With the lighter nights now rolling in, we wanted to bring the first taste of summer to our fans, and what better way to do this than with a delicious lemon flavoured gin? “This is one of our favourite gins…

gin live arrives in london

London hosted its first Gin Live event, presented by Gin Magazine, in March 2019. On a sun-drenched and unseasonably warm spring day in the city, distillers and producers from across the globe descended on London for the two-day tasting experience. In total, 16 producers took part in the event, showcasing well over 30 brands. Distillers and ambassadors from a number of brands also lead masterclasses, providing guests with an intimate introduction to their gin, while Gin Magazine’s Sam Coyne presented winners from the World Gin Awards. didsbury gin goes big with two fruity flavours

Didsbury Gin have created two summer tipples, just in time for us to enjoy throughout summer. The two flavours, which will be released in the summer this year are Blood Orange & Ginger and Rhubarb. With the brand suggesting that orange is set to be the new pink, the Blood Orange & Ginger Gin is bursting with summer flavour, said to be inspired by the European summer drinking culture, with citrus notes and a ginger kick creating a refreshing combination. In addition, a Rhubarb gin will be the second new addition to the Didsbury family this year. In keeping with the brand’s ethos of using fresh ingredients and botanicals, the rhubarb expression is a quintessentially British flavour, made with rhubarb sourced from the Yorkshire triangle. Following the success of the Christmas Pudding gin and…
