dive into summer finger foods

Welcome Summer! Summer is my favorite season. I love the warm, beachy weather, picnics, BBQ’s, bonfires and all the wonderful outdoor dining options. It is also a season for more relaxed dining. Many of our warm weather menus call for finger foods. I thought it would be a great time to review some etiquette rules regarding eating with your fingers because, yes, sometimes it is perfectly proper to use your fingers! Foods generally considered as finger foods include: • Barbeque Ribs• Fried chicken, turkey or other fowl on the bone (if served in a casual setting otherwise use a knife and fork)• Small fruit such as grapes, apricots, cherries, strawberries or other berries, apples, bananas, nuts• Pickles• Artichokes• Melon, depending on how it is served• Corn on the Cob• Bacon• French Fries…

beach pop up party

We have said it before and we will say it again, no matter how well you plan for an event, there is every chance something may go wrong and you will have to fix, shift, pivot, maneuver, and all the while keeping a smile on your face. The bottom line is, when you are calm and collected, so are your guests. We decided to do a pop-up party at the beach as the weather was breaking and the sun was shining after some very cold mornings. We got our pretty-in-hot-pink party settings, and told everyone to dress in our summer color palette. When we arrived at the beach, we had no idea the sand-storm weather that was going to greet us. We had planned for a party of eight, and…

shades of green

The party festivities continue with the main event, Shades of Green. We set the atmosphere with different shades of green from the table settings, floral arrangements, and red-carpet balloons. As guests entered the party scene, they had their photo taken in front of the step-and-repeat by fabulous photographer/cinematographer, Martin Cox. As they made their way around the pathway to the tables, they were delighted to see a sea of green tablecloths with gold and blush accents. Everyone that came wore green (until the sun set and it got very chilly causing most guests to don a coat or sweater), and it was an emerald enchanted party. Our white swan was the center piece attraction and adorned the table in the middle where hot, fresh tea and coffee awaited any passerby guests.…

welcome friends

The allure of summer is completely different than other seasons. Winter melts its way into spring, and spring beckons us to clean out closets, garages, and attics. Summer is different. Summer is a time to kick off our shoes and run barefoot outside, plan gatherings and parties around celebrations such as anniversaries, weddings, and graduations, and it's a time of creating memories to share over dinners for years to come. This is the season we look to for forging new hobbies, visiting new places, or taking on special projects, such as the miniature dollhouse that awaits my attention in my office. It was a special gift from my mother…six years ago. She had discovered my love of all things miniature and bought me my first do-it-yourself dollhouse, and I anticipated with…
