welcome friends

I know I probably say this about every season, but fall is one of my favorites. I am a person who thrives on change. Fall is a special time of year when everything around us seems to change. Our schedules change as kids head back to school after summer break. The time changes and we fall back an hour and cool, dark nights take over the late afternoon sun. The leaves change color as the temperatures drop. Scented candles seem to make their way out of storage closets, flannel sheets find their way back on our beds, and making homemade soups is a favorite weekend pastime to store for the cold season. Keeping in theme with the changing season, we want to bring you a fresh perspective on new ideas for…

editor’s note

Follow me on instagram @les_callaway Words almost fail me as I share with you my excitement of celebrating the beauty of fall and the opportunities that autumn gives us. Some look at the falling leaves and the passing of summer as sad, yet I see mysterious colors of sunset painted on trees and shrubs everywhere…whether I am strolling through the neighborhood, or taking a drive outside the city, the experience is breathtaking! At times I quietly breath the words or just sometimes speak it out, “Thank you, God, for the beauty I get to live this time of year.” Therefore, our goal was to use the blend of joyful colors of autumn into all of our photos, ideas, and articles…and I think we did it! My prayer is that this fall, you find…

hostess gift

A homemade hostess gift is always appreciated There are many times in my life I have looked around and realized that we have lost the art of so many things. When I was growing up my mom would deliver presents on May Day, and would hand deliver ‘thank you’ cards. One of the many things I feel in life that are a lost art are hostess/host gifts. If you don’t know what that is. That’s okay. It’s a gift you bring to the person who put on the party. A “thank you for the invite” gift. I grew up with this being a very normal thing, but as I got older, and my generation started being the party throwers, host/hostess gifts were gone. Gone like *NSYNC, gone like mid-day naps, gone like…

hearts at home keep it simple

We can sum it up in three words: Keep it Simple. Yes, it really is that easy. We’ve planned elaborate events for hundreds of people, and small pop-up parties for 2, and we have found that no matter what, the party is always a success when we keep it simple. We also realize that our idea of simple, and your idea of simple, may be two very different things. As hospitality professionals, we are always prepared and have a back-up plan to our backup plan. There really isn’t much we haven’t seen, or any situation we haven’t come across. If you haven’t read our article, How Bad Can it Be, from our Winter 2021 issue, you should really check it out. With fall rolling in, the entertaining season begins full swing. One…

party tip

We have often talked about creating a color palette for your party. It's a great way to get fantastic shots that all mix well and are aesthetically pleasing. We love the soft, yet bold colors of fall that are warm and inviting. The natural earth tones blend well with any fall decor, and you can even spice it up with a pop of color to brighten your table with a little flare. We recommend a bold red or turquoise to give just a hint of pop!…
