alternative b-o-ps

Muscle cars are exciting, no doubt, but with their values now well beyond the reach of many enthusiasts, there are choices to ponder if you want to revel in the B-O-P experience. Considering Buick’s above-average build quality and outstanding engineering, you are getting a heck of a lot of car for the money when you buy one. The 1947-’52 Specials are quite affordable, yet for way less money, consider instead the Y-body Specials from 1961 to 1963; they are compact in size and attractively styled. If fitted with the all-aluminum 215-cu.in. V-8, you’ll have a little rocket on your hands. These Specials are probably the cheapest GM A-body you…

lost & found

Urban Legend A’s AFTER A RECENT DISCUSSION ON THE HEMMINGS DAILY ABOUT OLD CARS THAT went down with shipwrecks, Bradley Laing asked us if we’d heard the urban legend about a boxcar Model A’s abandoned in the desert somewhere. “A book about urban legends claimed that a rumor that has lasted for decades is, on a desert siding someplace in the U.S. is a forgotten boxcar full of intact Model A Fords,” he wrote. Could there exist such a place, Laing wondered, where the desert dry air would keep the Fords intact but also where nobody—particularly Model A collectors—would think to look?
