are you worried winter is coming

In an average Australian home, it is estimated 79-86% of heat gain and 46-61% of heat loss can be attributed to poor performing windows (source: SWA Project 2012*). It’s little wonder that energy efficiency specifications now form part of the building design requirements included in the ‘National Construction Code’. Therefore, it is crucial to consider the energy performance factors for windows and doors being installed in your home. The decision to include suitable energy efficient windows and doors in the design of your home may increase your comfort level significantly in both summer and winter. Dowell Windows is mindful of varying housing energy requirements, modern design aesthetics and affordability when designing your home or renovation. For these reasons Dowell has developed three unique product ranges with optional energy performance configurations. The Dowell…

ed’s letter

That’s right, it’s a new issue and a new face at the helm. While April takes a well-earned rest to enjoy motherhood, I’m delighted to be taking you through the very best and latest trends, must-haves and interiors in the colourful world of home design. I’ve already loved immersing myself in a swathe of fantastic house projects for this issue. Pushed to pick a favourite, though, I’d have to choose the stunning Bellevue Hill residence by Brooke Aitken Design. You can see that one on page 78. Equally fun has been catching up on the very latest designs from the Milan Furniture Fair, thanks to our man on the ground Massimo Speroni. He takes us on a journey through vibrant colours, sumptuous textures and unique design as he sums up the most…

milan report 2019

SALONE DEL MOBILE 2019: A NOD TO THE PAST Internationally known as the Milan Furniture Fair, Salone del Mobile is the best source for trends and inspiration in the furniture and design world. I love taking this annual trip to discover new brands and ideas, as well as taking in the energy of the city of Milan itself and all that it has to offer. The 2019 fair was interesting — with perhaps fewer stunning effects than previous years, but nevertheless still full of inspiring design ideas. This year, design brands showcased a stronger use of colour, while forest green, pumpkin red and yellow yolk were still on trend from last year. Among the hues of off-whites and neutrals, pops of strong red-orange and burgundy, together with dark, earthy colours from burnt…
