how to style the look

1 Less is more. Stick to a minimalist approach with this look, with only a select few accessories on display. 2 Use a neutral canvas to let more colourful items stand out. Soft furnishings and tableware in bold earthy colours will create more of an impact against a light, plain background. Exposed plaster, concrete or wood are all great backdrops. 1 Keep things abstract. For a sense of calm, emphasise shapes and colours in artwork and plants rather than using detailed patterns and prints. 2 Ground the look with one or two pops of black for a high-end touch.…

things to do in... october

Style switch SPOOKY DOORMATS Give trick-or-treaters a sweet surprise with these adorable Hallowe’en doormats. Pair them with a couple of outdoor lanterns or an autumnal wreath and a group of ornamental pumpkins for the ultimate low-effort, high-impact seasonal doorscape. WEEKEND PROJECT Try the new monochrome When you think of a monochrome scheme, you’ll probably think of a black and white theme, but there are many more options. Monochrome literally means ‘one colour’ so you can choose any hue to create your look. We love the bold use of Capri Pink (from £5.95 for 120ml) in this design from Annie Sloan. It’s bright, but still cosily intimate. YOURHOMESTYLE Who lived in a house like this? Over on our website,, we’ve been swotting up on skirting and studying ceiling roses to bring you spotters’ guides to period features. Once…

our boho scandi style has a calm feel

‘I sold most of my traditional furniture, and started afresh with a contemporary, boho-meets-Scandi look that’s really grown on me’ MY STORY Kurt and I had been saving for a year to buy a home. We were struggling to find an affordable four-bedroom house and by the time we spotted this one, we were expecting Spencer and running out of time! Even though it was modern, with no period character and the complete opposite of what I had in mind, I agreed to view it. Incredibly, we just loved the house straight away. It had lots of space, and the kitchen, bathroom and floorings were neutral and fairly new. The garish kitchen tiles and some of the colours upstairs weren’t my taste, but I knew I could easily change those. This house is so…
