I’m not sure where I fi rst heard the question, "Are you a show pony or a work horse?" It could have been from my high school guidance counselor, on the back of a No Fear shirt or a BuzzFeed quiz, but anyway I don’t think you can be suc- cessful without being both. When assembling the contributors to this, our Moto Issue, we made sure every person was part of this rare hybrid breed. Starting off is "Pinstripe Chris" Dunlop (8) who painted the above boss issue theme logo for us; more of his artwork and story are on page 16. Another wizard, "Zombie Jake" Heaton (4), hand-made motorcycle masks for this month’s Art Project. 21 Helmets Inked, a touring art exhibit we had a hand in for the Progressive…

CHRISTMAS ABBOTT TAKES DOWN HER 1 HATER.Jeremy Smith wrote on Christmas Abbott's Facebook wall after seeing our shoot: “Are you a fitness model or porn star? I have seen you nearly naked from every creative angle possible. I’m not complaining but at what point do you stop pretending and show the rest?” Christmas Abbott reacts, “I love my body and if I could I would be naked all the time. I am and have always been unapologetically ME. I find your comment completely offensive particularly because you have been a follower and know what I promote—self empowerment. I’m an athlete, business mogul, fitness enthusiast, art lover, and so many other things that obviously you cannot comprehend or appreciate. I would rather embrace who I am and be scolded for it…

my favorite ink stephanie pietz

My tiger tattoo was done by my good friend, Satoru Koizumi at Oneshot Tattoo in Okinawa, Japan. It’s my favorite tattoo because I was born in the Year of the Tiger. I also feel it represents me well: fierce and strong. Someone once told me that I have that tiger-like majesty. Haha! Like I’m something you want to witness but afraid to get close to, without knowing you can. I’ve been riding motorcycles since I was eight years old. My stepfather got me into dirt bikes at a young age because he had an interest in motorcycles himself. Now I ride a '91 Harley Davidson FXR (the one in the picture is actually my bike) and I also have a 2015 Suzuki RMZ250 dirt bike. There is nothing more satisfying for me,…

marked-up cars

Auto Trader’s “car color of the year” may be Metallic Black, but anyone whipping that would have their jaw drop to the fl oor mats when pulling up next to a car marked by “Pinstripe Chris” Dunlop. The artist's custom marker designs would even make Xzibit and the rest of the ride pimpers whistle in awe. Hand-drawn and protected by a clear coat, Dunlop's designs make him the Nikko Hurtado of the car world. Tattoos helped spark the idea of inking his fi rst, a Cadillac. "The owner of the Cadillac I was (commissioned to paint) had fl own me and was looking for ideas,” Dunlop says. “He was a heavily tatted-up dude, so I thought it would be really cool to do artwork that refl ected his own artwork and things…

rally girl

Ormond Beach, FL PLEASE DESCRIBE THIS SCENE. Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona is an amazing place to be working for Bike Week. It has everything! We’ve got the dealership, concerts with national acts, all the top names in the motorcycle industry set up on the property and, of course, hot girls serving the best drinks! WHAT ARE THE POPULAR DRINKS? Jack Daniel’s and beer. DO YOU RIDE? I do not, but I’ve ridden on my fair share of fenders! Getting my motorcycle license is on my bucket list. SEEN ANY COOL TATTOOS LATELY? I always see a lot of awesome tattoos at rallies. My favorites are the old servicemen whose tattoos have faded into a blue-green color. There’s always a funny story behind those that involve “leave” and drinking. WHAT’S YOUR OWN FAVORITE PIECE? I really like my rockabilly guy and…

question everything

Question Everything. That is the mantra, nay battle cry, in the Indian Larry Motorcycles shop. The storefront is sleek; 1/3 museum of Indian Larry the legend, 1/3 showroom of some of the sweetest bikes in the world and 1/3 a merch shop for those who aren’t lucky enough to acquire an Indian Larry custom bike but still want to be a part of the lifestyle. One of the cooler shirts is of Larry’s neck tattoo: “In God We Trust Vengeance Is Mine. Sayeth The Lord No Fear.” Behind the showroom in Brooklyn is the workshop full of twisted metal and bikes at various stages of gestation, pages torn out of smut rags then taped to a wall and awesome graffiti murals, hands that are so calloused wearing work gloves would be redundant and those same hands…
