CLEVER COUNTER Name: Hugh Heroic feat: Hugh participated in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count in 2019, and will count again this year! The event is part of BirdLife Australia’s National Bird Week (October 19-25). BirdLife is a conservation organisation that aims to prevent bird extinctions! FAST SIX WITH HUGH K-Z : Hi Hugh! Due to the distance, astronomers used radio waves to study the object, known as TXS 0128+554 (or TXS 0128 for short). Over time, astronomers charted the shape and noted a black hole at the centre of the active galaxy, with twin jets of energy blasting from it! WORLD NEWS An extraordinary event occurred in the town of Olten, Switzerland in August – it ‘snowed’ chocolate! A ventilation system malfunction at the nearby Lindt and Sprüngli chocolate factory caused cocoa powder to sprinkle down on the town. The system was quickly…

THE CURIOUS SNAKE WITH A FAKE NAME In Australia, we have brown snakes and red-bellied black snakes, but where does the death adder fit in? The name ‘death adder’ would strike fear into many minds, but the snake isn’t actually an adder! The dangerous snake is a highly venomous species in the Elapidae family, which also includes cobras, brown snakes and tiger snakes. So, why is it called a ‘death adder’? When Europeans came to Australia, the only snake they knew was the European adder, which looked slightly similar. Death adders…
