How hard should I be foamrolling? It should hurt, right? A. First off, you don’t need to use a foam roller. It is a choice. For some, it may help with mobility or temporary pain relief, as the pressure enacts changes within tissues and the nervous system. (For more on some of these tissues, called fascia, turn to page 30.) But you should never use a foam roller for a bone issue. Pain here could just mean pain, or you could be irritating a fracture and causing more problems. When foam rollers are used correctly, though, you will experience mild discomfort. If you’re looking to keep the vibrancy of your black jeans, practice careful washing. That means washing them inside out and in cold water. Then air drying—don’t use the dryer. For an even better black-sustaining wash, I’d suggest using black-water soap by Woolite. It’s worth the investment if you’re serious about all-black anything.
