location: Longview, Washington established: 1997 size: 1,500 square feet “Giving someone a quilt is like giving them a hug.” Jennie Lamb was what she calls “a frequent flyer” at Momma Made It, the Longview, Washington, quilt shop that opened in 1997. Jennie first started shopping there in the mid-’90s when a friend suggested they take a quilting class together, and Jennie has since made hundreds of quilts. When an opportunity came up two years ago to buy Momma Made It, which is located between Portland and Seattle, Jennie jumped at the chance. She has had no regrets in the ensuing years. “How bad can it be when I get to come in every day and touch fabric?” she says. While she does plenty besides caress the merchandise, it is her dedication to Civil…

Owners Stephanie Bradshaw and Susan Horton have embraced technology in many forms, including downloadable quilt patterns and sewing machines with touch screens. “We want to show people all the things they can do in their sewing rooms,” Stephanie says. “Ninety percent of our customers start as quilters, but they’re also making apparel, doing machine embroidery, and participating in general crafting.” Located a half-mile off of downtown’s buzzing Broad Street, the Stitchery has been named Readers’ Choice Best Fabric Store by the Rome News Tribune twice (in 2015 and 2016) and in 2017, it was recognized by the University…
