PET POWER Pets have been the secret superheroes of the pandemic, according to new research from Australia. A combination of lockdown and social distancing meant that many living alone were deprived of human-to-human contact for much of 2020 – while everyone experienced less of it than in a normal year. Filling in for this absence of touch were our furry and feathered friends. Animals, according to the University of South Australia, stepped into the breach, providing cuddles and a constant physical presence.
