What is it about small structures that appeal to so many of us? If you saw the wonderful film Nomadland, you’ll remember the scene where Frances McDormand’s character, Fern, flees the generous guest room in the house where she’s staying for the safety of her vintage built-out van. She climbs into the back, sinks into her tiny bunk and sighs with relief. You can just feel the stress roll off her and I, for one, felt the same visceral reaction to escaping that house.
