There’s long been a fascination with the RMS Titanic. A supposedly ‘unsinkable’ ship that sunk – with the tragic loss of around 1,500 souls – during its maiden voyage in April 1912. Various intrepid explorers and historians have since visited the wreckage in the North Atlantic Ocean. James Cameron, director of the 1997 film Titanic, did 33 dives to the sunken vessel in a submersible.
And in June 2023, American company, OceanGate, was offering an eight-day trip to the Titanic’s wreckage, including dives, for the sum of $250,000 (£195,000).
