Music legend Lulu has spoken for the first time about the moment she finally faced up to her issues with alcohol, which led her to check into rehab in 2013, the day after her 65th birthday celebration.
The star, now 76, admits that while she had always been a regular drinker, it was in her 60s that she started to lose control, all the time hiding her addiction from her family and her friends.
‘After I became menopausal with both my parents gone, the empty nest [her son Jordan is now 48], looking around and seeing all the young kids in the music industry – I became more and more reliant on it [alcohol],’ she told The Sunday Times, adding, ‘I was unable to ask for help.’
