Seedpods, those earthly remnants of the growing season, fill autumn landscapes with subtle shapes, colors, textures, scents, and even sounds. Single or clustered, full or empty, foraged or bought, seedpods can be key elements of fall and winter floral arrangements.
“I’m always searching for interesting things to use for styling,” says photo stylist Karin Lidbeck-Brent, who collects pods from gardens, meadows, and roadsides each fall. “We pass attractive pods every day but tend to look for pretty flowers and not so much for brown-and-dried things.”
Collecting Mother Nature’s seasonal gifts stimulates creativity. “Once you start thinking about seedpods, you’ll start seeing them everywhere,” Lidbeck-Brent says. “Look up in a tree or in a friend’s perennial bed, and you’ll find them.” Want exotic pods? You can buy them in crafts stores…
