THE recently-released Sustainable Development Report 2024 confirms that efforts to achieve sustainability through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are already off the mark, and most have either stagnated and/or regressed since the Covid-19 pandemic. While the average SDG progress in BRICS countries (Brazil, the Russian Federation, India, China, and South Africa) has been above the world average, the gap between rich and poor countries continues to widen almost unabated. This requires innovative and transformative models for natural resources management, global finance and partnerships.
