Our friend Gerry makes hand drums. Let's see how he does it! Drums are important in ceremonies such as powwows and round dances. They are like the heartbeat of Mother Earth. Drum making is one of my favourite things to do! How I make a hand-held drum 1 First I lay a round piece of deer hide on a table. I place a wooden drum frame on top. 2 I punch holes in the hide. I weave strips of deer hide in and out of the holes, going back and forth across the frame. 3 I tie the ends of the deer hide lacing in the centre of the drum frame. 4 I wrap the lacing around and around to make a handle. I hang my drum for four days…
