The deadly novel coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, is one of the factors currently “unnerving” the global trading environment, according to Roelf Pienaar, managing director of Tru-Cape.
Pienaar and Conrad Fick, marketing director of Tru-Cape, briefed the media after their recent visit to Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Germany, about the latest trends at the fair and how these could affect South Africa’s fruit industry.
According to Pienaar, South East Asia, especially China, was a highly significant market for South African fruit exports, especially apples such as the Fuji and Royal Beauty varieties.
“At the moment, from a trade and apple export perspective, [the outbreak] is going to have a huge impact on trade in that region over the next few months,” he said.
