Chiappa's Rhino revolver is now more than ten years old and it has become quite popular in the United States, a country where revolvers are still widely used for self-defense and sport shooting. Compared to traditional revolvers, the Rhino is truly unconventional, first of all for its look which is influenced by the peculiar mechanical characteristics, such as the barrel aligned with the lower chamber of the cylinder. The .50 Beowulf belongs to the group of so-called “ultimate calibers” for the AR 15 (a group that includes, for example, the .458 Socom and the .499 LWR) developed in the early 2000s, when American special forces were looking for a large caliber ammunition that was compatible with the AR platform, in order to have immediate stopping power during extremely specialized tasks, such as stopping terrorists with explosives on themselves or on their vehicle. The cartridge was created in 2001 by US company Alexander Arms, of which the owner, Bill Alexander, is also the designer of the 6.5 mm Grendel. The 7.5 mm FK was designed to deliver performance comparable to that of a rifle cartridge. While still considered a semi-auto pistol caliber, the 7.5 FK has a size that far exceeds that of normal pistol calibers which, usually, have a length comparable to .45 ACP (32.39 mm according to CIP).
