New year, new experiences! The beginning of 2025 marked an exciting milestone in Denmark’s history, with King Frederik X hosting his very first New Year’s Eve gala as monarch, reflecting on his accession in an emotional message to the nation.
The father of four and his wife of 20 years, Queen Mary, were all smiles as they welcomed government and official guests to Copenhagen’s Amalienborg Palace for the royal family’s traditional New Year’s Eve banquet.
The king, 56, signalled his stature in distinguished military attire, while Australian-born Mary, 52, was elegant in a form-fitting forest-green velvet gown, paired with the diamond-encrusted Danish Emerald Parure tiara, dating back to 1840, and matching drop earrings. Both displayed their honours, including the Order of the Elephant (Denmark’s highest-ranked honour).
