These days, soaps love weird flashbacks, fantasy sequences and strange visions. However, back in the day, such nonsense was rarely indulged. In fact, even when Bob does have a bit of a spooky encounter this week, Emmerdale leaves the whole thing teasingly open-ended. Having fled the village, Bob makes a new friend in mysterious tramp Errol (played by Tony Booth, the widower of Pat Phoenix, aka Corrie’s Elsie Tanner). Each time Errol pops up, however, he seems to depart as quickly as he arrives, his words gently nudging Bob towards reuniting with Viv. When husband and wife finally reconcile, Bob turns around to thank his friend, only to find he’s disappeared once again, leaving Bob wondering if Errol ever existed at all…
