This week, I’m writing my editor’s letter from carriage D of the Grand Central Trains service from Bradford to London, as I make my way home from a very special screening of Corriedale. It’s not only Phil who has a lot to deal with this week, as Sam is also anxious about the prospect of her impending surgery, following her breast cancer diagnosis before Christmas. Ahead of her operation, Sam decides to confide in her old friend Alfie, who will know exactly how she’s feeling – as he was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2023 and also underwent an operation to successfully treat his illness. It’s an emotional chat that hopefully gives her the reassurance she needs, as later in the week, Sam hesitantly reveals that she now has a date for her lumpectomy.
