Following on from a rush of new models unveiled at the EICMA show in Milan this month, Kawasaki have pulled the covers of another surprising new machine coming to the UK in 2026 – a 233cc fuel-injected retro, called the W230. Taking key design and styling inspiration from the glory days of biking and the likes of Kawasaki’s 1965 650-W1, the W230 has a vintage appeal with steel mudguards, spoked wheels and a classic-style teardrop fuel tank, complete with a retro three-dimensional emblem. The 233cc air-cooled motor is packing just under 18bhp at 7000rpm and 13.7lb.ft at 5800rpm, meaning that the W230 is built to be a comfy and friendly plodder rather than a performance-led beast. ‘Go careful with refunds’ So, you’ve been caught out! You ordered motorcycle clothing online and what has arrived is either substandard, misdescribed, or outright fake – weak seams, bogus protectors, ‘Kevlar’ that’s actually yellow cotton – or, as previously discussed, a keyring instead of four riding shirts (yes, really). Not to worry. You paid the seller through a secure online payment system. Many vendors advertise the same well-known provider in their social media, which gives buyers confidence that transactions are safe and that full refunds available if things go wrong. ‘Better spec than Japan’ It’s easy to be dismissive. Green lanes fall into two categories – Byway Open to All Traffic (BOAT) or a Other Route with Public Access (ORPA) – and neither is technically ‘off-road’ so your bike must have an MoT, tax and be insured in just the same way as riding on a tarmac road. If you were lucky enough to have watched World Superbikes in the 1990s and 2000s, then you will almost certainly have an image of Noriyuki Haga indelibly etched into your memory. The Japanese rider played a starring role in the golden years of the championship, doing battle with the greatest from Foggy to Edwards, Bayliss to Biaggi and everyone in between. And for it to end in Valencia makes it even harder because it’s not a great track for a MotoGP bike. Luca Marini’s seventh-place finish at Valencia shuffled the order in MotoGP’s concessions for the first time since the current rules were introduced last season. These rules were initiated to help the struggling Japanese brands catch the rampant Europeans – the opposite target of the first concessions rules, introduced a decade ago! Today’s rules divide manufacturers into four groups: A, B, C and D. The best-performers inhabit the upper groups, while the lower performers fill the lower groups, where they get more help to improve their motorcycle, via more tyres for testing, more engine upgrades and so on. As part of their EICMA presentation, Enfield launched this new retro naked Bullet 650. As you might expect, it is powered by the current air/oil-cooled 648cc parallel twin, and comes paired with a six-speed gearbox, plus a 14.8-litre fuel tank. Built with a tubular steel spine frame, hand-painted stripes, and metal bodywork, this new addition to the family sports a familiar look – rolling on spoked 19in front and 18in rear wheels, with preload adjustable twin shocks at the rear. Thousands of motorcyclists from across the UK have visited Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre for the opening few days of the annual MCL show. Q ‘Help! My bike’s MoT expired’ I moved house and didn’t receive an MoT reminder like I used to do. Unfortunately, my test expired in late September. Will my insurance cover me if I am involved in an accident riding to the MoT station? According to my online searches there are conflicting opinions. Once our development team sign off a motorcycle, we hand over to the endurance division in Honda R&D whose job is to see if they can break it! One of the tests they do is a 24hr bench test, which consists of eight hours on the red line, eight hours running up and down the gears… and eight hours ‘snap’ test. Four-time Macau GP winner Peter Hickman revealed after this year’s Macau GP that he is still struggling with the effects of the injuries he sustained in his huge TT 2025 practice crash. Triumph are taking their sporty Street Triple middleweight to the next level, launching a new RX model variant alongside a limited-run Moto2 Edition.
