Is the ‘motherhood penalty’ driving the gender pay gap – and is sexism to blame? Dr Isabelle Sin was the lead researcher on a study at non-profit thinktank Motu Economic and Public Policy Research, which found that New Zealand’s gender pay gap is larger between mothers and fathers than it is between men and women without children. My typical week A typical day always starts with me sculling a big glass of water, then coffee. Always coffee. The recent case of Kurt Brunton, who passed away in January from blood cancer, needing $1.5 million to receive life-saving Car T-cell therapy in the US put the spotlight on issues around cost of treatment. The New Zealand model revolves around drug-funding agency Pharmac, who have an annual budget of $985 million to allocate to medicine and technology for the public health system.
