George Petrou is familiar to audiences not only through his frequent appearances at the BBC Proms with his Armonia Atenea orchestra, but also through his many award-winning recordings of Baroque operas. In 2018, his recording of Handel’s Alessandro was the Recording of the Year at the International Opera Awards.
Other awards include the Diapason d’Or, the Preis der Deutsche Schalplattenkritik, Gramophone magazine’s Editor’s Choice and several others. The French government, meanwhile, has bestowed on him the honour of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
