TO TRANSFORM A LONG, CHOPPY PRIMARY BEDROOM, BATH, AND 3-FOOT-WIDE CLOSET INTO AN attractive, functional space, designer Kelly McGuill of Kelly McGuill Home in Walpole, Massachusetts, tapped into hidden nooks in the architecture. “Lots of unused space stood behind the original closet, so we rethought the whole bedroom,” McGuill says.
Working with Sequoia Custom Builders of Sherborn, Massachusetts, McGuill and designer and project manager Gabby Lazaros created an expanded 10×14-foot closet that tucks beneath the home’s sloped ceilings. Custom cabinetry lines each side of the new closet, giving the space a sense of symmetry. The homeowners each had specific storage needs, so the compartments are divided differently to allow for dress shirts and jeans for him and dresses, bags, and sweaters for her.
