EARTH ARTISTS Saype began expressing himself through graffiti as a teen. Today, this artist from France makes giant illustrations on the ground to raise awareness about important global issues. He uses a long hose and power sprayer to apply paint to wide grassy areas or beaches. (Naturally, his paint is biodegradable!) Saype hopes his enormous paintings will remind people to protect the environment. He’s also made pictures of joined hands to represent world peace. Jim Denevan, a land artist in Santa Cruz, California, traces and sculpts huge circular and spiral patterns out of the sand found on beaches and in deserts.
