Its quaint brick buildings and proximity to attractions like the oldest arched covered bridge in the United States might lead visitors to imagine that Covington, Virginia (population 6,000), is home to a quilt shop offering fabrics reflecting days gone by. But shop owner Pam Mann says that Sew Many Quilts, nestled on a welcoming main street, defies those expectations. “People come in and say, ‘Wow, I’ve never seen so many bright fabrics!’ ” she says.
The dazzling colors come from more than 3,000 fabrics by designers Kaffe Fassett, Jane Sassaman, Anna Maria Horner, Jennifer Pagnelli, Joel Dewberry, Phillip Jacobs, and others. Bolts from Michael Miller, Westminster, and Moda fill shop shelves, and quilt samples pop from the vividly painted walls.
